搬家 Moving house

Shàng gè yuè, wǒ cóng zhù le wǔ nián de fángzi bān le chūlái. Bānjiā yǐqián, wǒ yǐwéi zìjǐ de dōngxi bù duō, kěshì yì shōushi cái fāxiàn, fángjiān lǐ, chuáng dǐxia dàochù dōu shì dōngxi.

上个月，我从住了五年的房子搬了出来。搬家以前，我以为自己的东西不多，可是一收拾才发现，房间里、床底下到处都是东西。

Last month I moved out of the flat I’d lived in for five years. Before moving, I thought I didn’t have much, but once I started packing I found things everywhere: all over the rooms, under the bed.

Yǒu hěn duō yīfu wǒ yǐjīng liǎng sān nián méi chuān guò le, hái yǒu yìxiē shū mǎi huílái yǐhòu yí cì yě méi dǎkāi guò. Wǒ yìbiān zhěnglǐ, yìbiān wèn zìjǐ: zhèxiē dōngxi wǒ zhēn de xūyào ma?

有很多衣服我已经两三年没穿过了，还有一些书买回来以后一次也没打开过。我一边整理，一边问自己：这些东西我真的需要吗？

There were lots of clothes I hadn’t worn for two or three years, and some books I’d never opened since buying them. As I sorted things, I kept asking myself: do I really need all this?

Zuìhòu, wǒ bǎ yíbàn de yīfu sòng gěi le xūyào de rén, bǎ jiù shū mài gěi le jiù shūdiàn. Shèng xià de dōngxi zhī zhuāng le shí gè xiāngzi, bǐ wǒ xiǎng de shǎo de duō.

最后，我把一半的衣服送给了需要的人，把旧书卖给了旧书店。剩下的东西只装了十个箱子，比我想的少得多。

In the end, I gave half the clothes to people who needed them and sold the old books to a second-hand bookshop. What was left fitted into ten boxes, far fewer than I’d expected.

Zhù jìn xīn jiā yǐhòu, fángjiān kàn qǐlái yòu dà yòu gānjìng. Xiànzài, měi cì xiǎng mǎi xīn dōngxi zhīqián, wǒ dōu huì xiān xiǎng yì xiǎng: wǒ shì zhēn de xūyào tā, háishi zhǐshì yì shí xiǎng yào?

住进新家以后，房间看起来又大又干净。现在，每次想买新东西之前，我都会先想一想：我是真的需要它，还是只是一时想要？

After moving into the new place, the rooms felt big and clean. Now, before I buy anything new, I first ask myself: do I really need it, or do I just want it right now?
