面试 The interview

Wèile zhè cì miànshì, Xiǎo Lín zhǔnbèi le yí gè xīngqī. Tā bǎ zìjǐ de jīnglì hé yōudiǎn dōu xiě zài zhǐ shàng, měi tiān duì zhe jìngzi liànxí huídá wèntí.

为了这次面试，小林准备了一个星期。她把自己的经历和优点都写在纸上，每天对着镜子练习回答问题。

Xiao Lin had spent a week preparing for this interview. She wrote down her experience and strengths, and practised answering questions in front of the mirror every day.

Miànshì nà tiān zǎoshang, tā tíqián yí gè xiǎoshí chūmén. Méi xiǎng dào dìtiě chū le wèntí, tíng le èr shí fēnzhōng. Tā jí de mǎn tóu shì hàn, dào gōngsī de shíhou, yǐjīng chídào le shí fēnzhōng.

面试那天早上，她提前一个小时出门。没想到地铁出了问题，停了二十分钟。她急得满头是汗，到公司的时候，已经迟到了十分钟。

On the morning of the interview she left an hour early. Unexpectedly the subway broke down and stopped for twenty minutes. She was so anxious she was sweating, and by the time she reached the company she was ten minutes late.

Tā yǐwéi zìjǐ kěndìng méiyǒu jīhuì le, dàn háishi lǐmào de xiàng jīnglǐ dàoqiàn, bìng jiěshì le yuányīn. Jīnglǐ méiyǒu shēngqì, zhǐshì wèn tā:"yùdào zhè zhǒng qíngkuàng, nǐ shì zěnme zuò de?"

她以为自己肯定没有机会了，但还是礼貌地向经理道歉，并解释了原因。经理没有生气，只是问她：“遇到这种情况，你是怎么做的？”

She assumed she had no chance now, but she still apologised politely to the manager and explained why. The manager wasn’t angry. He just asked her, “When that happened, what did you do?”

Xiǎo Lín shuō, tā zài dìtiě shàng xiān gěi gōngsī dǎ le diànhuà, ránhòu yòng děng chē de shíjiān yòu kàn le yí biàn gōngsī de cáiliào. Jīnglǐ tīng le diǎn diǎntóu. Yí gè xīngqī yǐhòu, Xiǎo Lín shōudào le gōngsī de tōngzhī: tā tōngguò le miànshì.

小林说，她在地铁上先给公司打了电话，然后用等车的时间又看了一遍公司的材料。经理听了点点头。一个星期以后，小林收到了公司的通知：她通过了面试。

Xiao Lin said that on the train she first phoned the company, then used the waiting time to read through the company’s materials again. The manager nodded. A week later, Xiao Lin got a message from the company: she had passed the interview.
