New HSK (3.0) format · original practice questions
HSK 1 practice test
A full-length HSK 1 test with 40 questions, built to match the structure of CTI’s official sample paper for the new HSK. Every question has an explanation, and wrong answers go to your mistake list. Pinyin is shown, as on the real test; you can hide it.
What is on the HSK 1 test
The real HSK 1 written test has 40 questions and takes about 40 minutes. This practice test follows the same parts in the same order:
- Listening, questions 1–5: You hear a short sentence and choose the matching picture from three.
- Listening, questions 6–10: You hear a question and choose the reply that fits, for example 今天天气怎么样? → 非常热.
- Listening, questions 11–15: You hear a two-line dialogue and match it to one of six pictures.
- Listening, questions 16–20: You hear a sentence and a question about it, then pick one of three short answers.
- Reading, questions 21–25: Match each sentence to one of six pictures.
- Reading, questions 26–30: Match each question to its reply from a list.
- Reading, questions 31–35: Fill each blank with a word from a bank of six.
- Reading, questions 36–40: Read one or two sentences and answer a question about them (three choices).
A sample question
From the reading section (Part 4):
我在北京工作,我的家在上海。
★ 他在哪儿工作?
A 北京 B 上海 C 学校
Answer: A. 在北京工作 = works in Beijing. His home is in Shanghai, so B is a trap.
How to use this test
- Early in your preparation, use practice mode to learn the question types and see explanations part by part.
- A few weeks before the test, take it under test conditions to check your timing.
- Afterwards, go through your mistake list and the HSK 1 word list for words you missed.
Scores here are a guide to readiness, not an official prediction. CTI has not yet published pass marks for the new HSK; on the old test, 60% was a pass.
All questions are original WordSwing content, written to match the format of the official sample paper. They are not official CTI questions. Pictures: Noto Emoji (Apache 2.0). Audio is synthesised speech.
