Numbers: percent, fractions, 倍, 左右
百分之二十 = 20%, 三分之一 = one third, 两倍 = twice, 十个左右 = about ten.
Structure
- 百分之 + number
- number + 分之 + number
- number + 倍
- number + 左右
How it works
Percentages: 百分之 + number, “out of a hundred”: 百分之五十 = 50%.
Fractions: bottom number + 分之 + top number: 三分之一 = ⅓.
倍 means “times”: 他的收入是我的两倍 = he earns twice as much as me.
左右, 前后 and 大约 mark approximate numbers: 三点左右, 大约一百人.

Wǒmen bān bǎi fēn zhī bā shí de xuéshēng tōngguò le kǎoshì.
Eighty percent of our class passed the exam.

Sān fēn zhī yí de rén xuǎnzé le zuò dìtiě.
A third of people chose the subway.
