New HSK (3.0) format · original practice questions
HSK 5 practice test
A full-length HSK 5 test with 77 questions, built to match the structure of CTI’s official sample paper for the new HSK. Every question has an explanation, and wrong answers go to your mistake list.
What is on the HSK 5 test
The real HSK 5 written test has 72 questions and takes about 110 minutes. This practice test follows the same parts in the same order:

- Listening, questions 20–35: Longer recordings (interviews, talks, news-style items) with several questions each.
- Reading, questions 36–45: Cloze passages: choose the right word or sentence for each gap.
- Reading, questions 46–55: Put five paragraphs in order (two sets).
- Reading, questions 56–70: Long passages, each with three or four questions, including main idea and best title.
- Writing, questions 71: Write a story of at least 100 characters based on four pictures.
- Writing, questions 72: Write a topic essay of at least 200 characters (the sample: a time you tried something new and how you felt).
The separate HSK 5 speaking test is described on the HSK 5 guide and in our speaking guide.

How to use this test
- Early in your preparation, use practice mode to learn the question types and see explanations part by part.

Scores here are a guide to readiness, not an official prediction. CTI has not yet published pass marks for the new HSK; on the old test, 60% was a pass.
All questions are original WordSwing content, written to match the format of the official sample paper. They are not official CTI questions. Pictures: Noto Emoji (Apache 2.0). Audio is synthesised speech.
